According to @ToonamiNews, the official Twitter of Toonami Faithful, the network is set to broadcast Outlaw Star on its late night anime block, which will begin on August 19th at 2:30 A.M EST. This show will replace Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, which has reached its climax.
Faithful viewers of Toonami probably will remember Outlaw Star’s brief run on Toonami, which started in 2001. The anime series has aired on Toonami several times since then, becoming a popular program as such. Some controversial moments in the show’s broadcast included the show being edited and the “Hot Springs Planet Tenrei” episode being skipped over. Part of the reason why this episode was skipped was because Toonami aired on Cartoon Network every weekday afternoon, gaining a lot of younger viewers.
In addition, the manga is actually a spin-off of the popular manga series, Tahehiko Ito’s Future-Retro Hero Story. Ironically, the anime series spawned its own spin-off anime titled Angel Links.
The story of Outlaw Star is as follows according to Funimation:
Gene Starwind is a jack-of-all-trades responsible for odd jobs and bounty hunting with his partner, Jim Hawking. Stuck on a rundown planet, he’s going nowhere fast. But when a bodyguard job goes sideways, he finds himself the proud owner of the Outlaw Star and on an adventure to find the mysterious Galactic Leyline. Facing pirates and dangers galore, can he survive the journey through space?
